After a long break, I finally got back into the water this weekend. The reasons for the break were several: first, I was really busy, and second, I have been having arm problems, and have needed to give carrying my huge camera around a little rest. Anyways, we headed out to Antheor, in the “L’Esterel”   Read More …

It’s the fourth of July, and I am celebrating by doing what I do on just about every day off that I have – diving and taking photos. I really don’t have much to say, except that I am glad to have an extra day off, and I am pretty happy with my photos taken   Read More …

The wildlife was a highlight of Corsica, and we saw some pretty amazing things. Unfortunately, I didn’t get pictures of all of it, but I hope you can all believe me when I tell you about it! We’ll start with the cool stuff that I DON’T have photos of. We had a couple of great   Read More …

Well, the last few weeks have been either awful weather, poorly planned, or dry land excursions. Hopefully I will be able to get into the water this weekend, as it will likely be my last chance until Corsica, which is coming up at the end of June. As it was, I was able to get into the water a bit on Monday of this week for a few shots.

Those of you who follow me on Facebook will know that I posted something about a huge opportunity in a major publication. It was a major, major deal, and I was pretty excited about it. The thing is… it fell through. It wasn’t a problem with my photos, but more a question of context. Not that it makes me feel any better. Over the last 18 months, I have had a few flirtations with major opportunities, but they all have fallen through at the last minute. While it is really disappointing, I feel like there are more waiting, and that it is only a matter of time before I land THE ONE. Plus, it doesn’t help that I found out that I lost a not small amount of cash in an investment gamble the same day. Oh well, life goes on.

Since my big equipment transition, I have been getting more and more comfortable with my equipment. It’s a really good feeling to know that I am finally beginning to get from working with the photos I took, to getting the photos I want to take. Before this year, I would envision the photos I wanted, and when I got home and downloaded them, I found that they just were not there. That’s not to say there aren’t a hell of a lot of photos I am missing still. There is a lot of trial and error going on right now (mostly error). But sometimes, I am getting a solid shot, that is just what I envisioned. It’s a start. Enjoy the photos!

Got in the water this morning before work, and I took a few shots. I have been having quite a bit of fun with my macro setup, and my 60mm lens. The original plan was to just shoot wide angle all summer and then upgrade to a macro rig later in the year (Nikon 60mm lens). Boy am I glad I didn’t stick to the plan. The water has been so murky that I just can’t shoot wide angle all the time.

Well, this was the first weekend I was really able to get out and do some photo work with my new equipment. We had some very high winds, and most of the water was very agitated, with dangerous waves. I heard there was a guy who died in a boat accident yesterday, after the winds threw his boat up on the rocks. Yikes! That being said, there are almost always places with calm waters. Yesterday I checked out the water over by the airport (the non-windy side), and it was calm as could be. Visibility was pretty good, and I took some macro shots. This morning we got a small group together and headed over the St. Jean Cap-Ferrat where we found a protected bay to dive in, and conditions weren’t bad.
